MARATHON / KEY WEST JOINT RENDEZVOUS
NEWFOUND HARBOR ON PICNIC ISLAND JUNE 24, 2000

If you weren't there you missed a GREAT time. Make sure you make it next time - on your boat or hitch a ride on another! Plan on joint rendezvous' for Shark River (Feb), Boca Grande (April) and Newfound Harbor (June) every year between our two Squadrons - besides our regular cruises.

Page may take a while to load because of LOTS of pictures. - photos by Lois Arcuni and Gregory Absten

Marathon and Key West Power Squadrons - USPS of the Florida Keys!

Marathon towed in the firewood - courtesy of John Bobb. The Saturday night BonFire was great - but Cdr Absten could only eat so many marshmellows that his kids burned in the fire!

At Left:  Cdr's Gregory Absten, Marathon (right), John Cryer, Key West (middle), and Administrative Officer of Key West, Skip Speller (left). As AO, Skip set up and arranged for this rendezvous which was planned prior to Marathon becoming involved. Many thanks to Skip who worked his butt off to make this a fun weekend. He made about a zillion trips in his dinghy setting up the tent, tables & chairs, and the barbecue grills.

Rafted together are Marathon boats "Seavonne" (left) of P/C Jack Mayhew, AP and "Creative Touch" (right) of Cdr. Gregory Absten, AP.

We had about 47 attendees from both squadrons. Marathon had about 5 boats with 16 people, the rest were from Key West. Marathon Boats included "Second Chance", "Seavonne", "Creative Touch", "Sharkbyte", and "Sea Spirit".  Key West boats included "DamnedifIknow", "Megabyte", Black Swan", "Tandem 3", and others.

Some of the Marathon Squadron (hard to see here) - P/C Jack Mayhew, center. Nancy and Carl Miller, left,  John Bobb, right of center, and Linda Geipe, right.

Stf/C Charles Davenport, SN; Peggy Davenport, SN (Marathon) and EO John Belkengren, AP (Key West).

Yes Key West, we know that Charles and Peggy are also associate members of Key West, the same as Marathon, but you noticed whose burgee was flying from their bow didn't you?        At-A-Boy Charles!       :-)

Though they enjoyed their drinks in their "water seats", these two Key West members seemed to go "Topsy Turvey" in the water! Lucky I was there with the camera! What were they drinking anyway?
