The Marathon Power Squadron offers minimal cost public boating courses. These courses will qualify you for insurance discounts, and meet the State of Florida requirements for boating certification for all persons born after 1980. Our PUBLIC BOATING COURSE has set the standard for safe boating education for more than 85 years! Ours is given two evenings per week for three weeks, followed by a proctored test. Upon successful completion a certificate of Boating Education is issued. These classes cover navigation and navigational aids (buoys and daymarks), charting and plotting, basic seamanship skills and knot tying, plus boating safety! This is a great course to acquire a solid foundation of boating knowledge. It is NASBLA approved.
Our BOATSMART™ COURSE is a two day, eight hour course (4 hrs per day for two days, or 4 days at 2 hours each) that provides a very useful abbreviated version of our Public Boating Course. This program covers the essentials of Boating Safety, Charts and Aids to Navigation. It is NASBLA approved
Our JETSMART™ COURSE provides a similar one day course for Jet Ski and Waverunner operators. Not currently offered in Marathon.
The VIDEO COURSE provides the Public Boating Course on a book and video to take on your own time. This is advantageous for people always on the go and unable to attend the regular course. You can't expect just to watch the video and succeed, but by combining the video with reading the book and taking the quizzes, you can expect to easily pass the proctored test along with students of the regular Public Boating Course. It is NASBLA approved. $39.95

The BOAT PRO Computer Program provides an interactive way to learn the basics of boating. The software contains interactive teaching routines, animation, simulation and graphical displays. It is NASBLA approved.
MEMBER COURSES are open only to our own Power Squadron members, but include advanced boating instruction in seamanship, piloting, celestial navigation, sailing, weather, marine electronics, engine maintenance, and more!
