The Long Island Regatta was really an interesting weekend.  There were about 50
racing boats from all over the Bahamas Islands, plus 100 or more other boats of
all descriptions.  The race boats are quite unique.  The largest class are 28' l
ong with a 62' mast, 36' boom, 7' draft, and a crew of 15.  Many of those 15 are
usually pretty big guys, as they are mostly movable ballast.  They climb out on
hiking boards that slide out either side 10-12' from the side of the boat.  Getting
very wet and/or falling ovbd is a common occupational hazard!  The winning
boat was NEW COURAGEOUS from Ragged Island.

Well, the jello jiggled again.  We were planning on spending a few weeks in the
Jumento Island chain, but the weather is quite windy now, and those anchorages a
re pretty exposed.  Then we talked to a cruiser who just returned, and his report
was that the thimble jellyfish are very bad, and the anchorages are very rolly
.  So here we are back in Georgetown.  Actually it is the Red Shank area about 5
miles east.  Only one other boat in sight, rather than the 100-200 in Georgetown.
It's real convient as Georgetown, and the "stores and restaurants", are about
10 minutes away by dinghy, taking the inside, shallow route.

Probably spend a few days here, and when the weather moderates, continue north up
the Exumas at our usual slow pace.

Hi Greg and Lisa,

Arrived in Nassau yesterday, and picked up all my
Yahoo mail.  Glad to hear MPS is doing so well.
Interesting articles/plans you sent about hurricanes,
Shark River, and Newfound Harbor.  I am looking
forward to the latter 2, not the former.

After the quick trip back, we have slowed almost to a
stop and have enjoyed the Exumas for the last month.
It is our favorite cruising area in the Bahamas.

Our reservation at HCC is for Sept. 1, so will spend
the next month or so visiting the Berry Islands, maybe
Eleuthra, and probably the Abacos.  That is unless one
of those "H" things doesn't chase us back.

Hi to everyone,
Dave & Tish
