RETURN TO THE SONRISE MARINA PAGE
LEAMINGTON, Ontario
Canada
We made the run from Sandusky Ohio, directly
North across Lake Erie to Leamington Canada. We joined the Great Lakes Cruising
club at the municipal marina there for a weekend.
I can understand when I have an occasional problem with Cuban customs and
immigration, but I never thought that Cuba would be easier for us than Canada!
Seems that things have changed since we were there last (and this is before Sept
11). I ended up being an illegal alien and smuggling in the kids! Since we
were on a six+ month, 5000+ mile cruise, I carry a shotgun on board the boat.
Years ago we simply declared this to Canadian Customs - they then had the option
of OK'ing us with it, or I declared it ship's stores and they had the option of
locking it up on board, or holding it for us until we departed. They wouldn't do
either - After I declare it honestly, they tell us that we can't have it. They
also go back and forth and tell us they won't pick it up or lock it either - but
that we're not allowed to have it. After beaurocratic haggling for a while
I simply said goodbye. We ended up staying without their permission - but I had
given them full information on everyone and the boat.

Amber & Jessica share their birth with
both dogs! |

Horse-drawn carriage tours were
available right at the Marina. We didn't go, but Jessica & Amber enjoyed
feeding the horse candy and petting it.

Our Great "Adventure" began when Lisa
wanted to walk into town for a festival. After the first 3-4 MILES we gave
up! Seems to have been lots farther than we thought. Instead, we abandoned
the festival and stopped at Gilligans Restaurant/Bar for dinner. Capn Dad
had exotic wild game for dinner, but that grossed out the girls.

Capn Greg can use a good glass of wine after that
hike! --- We took a cab back.
